Whoa! My New York trip was a real grind. I had to work hard, walk fast and rip every mic I touched. NC is still and will always be an artists playground but that shit is no joke. So I did what I had to do, beat the streets like a pure beast. I am exhausted. I get back home to my "normal" life of laundry, dinner, my full time wireless gig, helping with homework, and princess tea parties. Did I mention that I am exhausted? I took a vacation from my real work to work even harder. Now as I prepare for the ASCAP I Create Music Expo in LA next month I am concentrating on sharpening my focus and articulating exactly what I want for my career. I really don't want to get in front of movers and shakers and sound like a complete idiot. While I get ready for that adventure I have a few local events in store. I just recently played the SWAN Day Spoken Soul Festival as one of the featured artists. From the CD sales and audience response I will safely assume I did pretty well on stage. I sold out of CD's that night.
My next performance is scheduled for tomorrow as The Bohemia Room presents To Her with Love a mixer and poetry event in conjunction with Tracy Mourning's Honey Child Charity and co-hosted by my boo Ingrid B and The Ethnicity Models. It promises to be a fabulous affair and I get to share the stage with the Miami Divas of Spoken Word: Mori Tiye, Poettis, Red Writing Hood, Flow Diva and Amali. I am excited to share for this inspiring and uplifting event. Other than that I may hit a few open mics just to see what's popping on the scene before I hit the City of Angels. I know that I have a lot on my plate but I plan on pacing myself and gobbling it all up, even if I have to stop for an occasional nap.
Maha Sings the Blues
I want to share my experience as I fully obligate myself to the journey of becoming more commited to my craft as a singer, spoken word artist and songwriter. Join me for the ups and downs of this journey as I share my soul with the world through song.

Mahagani
Finally after months of working and striving I am ready to share my work with the world in through my CD Mahagani which features live and studio recordings. I am very proud of this work and I look forward to sharing it with those who have an ear to listen. I can recall with ease bursting into tears in the studio because this project has been a long time comin' and I am confident that this will define a new era for my work and my craft as a writer and artists. The keen discernment I am able to apply today was almost non-existent back when I first began this journey in 2001. I am grateful for the eye to see bullshit and spray my repellent with ease. I have learned to fux with those who fux with me and keep it moving on those who don't. So if you are ready to join me on this adventure please go ahead and pre-order my CD Mahagani starting Feb 28, 2013 (and I have great gifts for my first 50 pre-orders) www.maha-adachi.com or meet me out in the streets at one of my shows and cop one face-to-face. This Thursday I will be performing in the RAW Artists
Miami Discovery Showcase. www.rawartists.org/Miami I am really excited about this event because I will also be playing another one of their showcases in Los Angeles later this year. More details to come.... Next week I will be officially selling Mahagani on March 6, 2013 at the best spot in Miami: The Bohemia Room. That night will feature Teedra Moses, Tasha Jones (one of my fav poets) and Dasha Kelly. Get your tickets now: www.thebohemiaroom.com See ya soon!

Stay Focused, Keep Working, Have Fun
Hey Lovely People! Hapi Nu Year.
As the grind continues I proceed in my plight to sew seeds in the game, work the fields, and harvest my fruit. I have many submissions for MAJOR performance oppotunities going out this week. I remain confident in the "product" I am pushing so I know some good call backs will pop off soon. After a recording session an opportunity arose for me to give voiceover work a try and I went for it. It felt natural, easy, and I was good and clear. I am glad this avenue has opened up and I will travel this path as often as I can. I love the facts that it is something that comes so natural to me and requires almost no effort to do well. I can dig that. A lil' side hustle can't hurt too bad.
So, on deck for January--
January 16th is the 11th anniversary of The Bohemia Room and the theme is "Brother to the Night" The MIC will be all the way live with Asia, Truth B Told, hosted by Dichotomy.
January 18th we're celebrating my King and for his Bornday we will be joining the B-Side Crew hitting the Tony Rock comedy show at the Improv and then partying it up at the new Saturday Night jump off at Love Hate. It promises to be a fab night as Tony is funny as heck and Love Hate is hella fun on Saturday nights now...
In addition to beginning to market my new project Mahagani which will be available next month I will also be featuring at an even in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr in Palm Beach:
MosArt Mondays "It's a Poetry Thing", Monday, January 21, 2013, 7:30 - 9:30 pm, 700 Park Avenue, Lake Park, FL 33403
I'm enjoying the ride keeping my main goals in focus. 2013 has started out with the same consistent growth that I maintained in the 4th quarter and it feels good. Now I just have to get geared up for some more picts, spend more time and energy networking and make sure I always take time to cuddle with my husband and children.

Microphone Fiend...
Last week was hella busy... I hit three mic's in 2 days AFTER spending countless hours in Chuck E Cheese celebrating my baby girl's 2nd birthday...
1. The Heavy Handed Slam on Saturday night was live and I am excited to try my hand at the upcoming Dada Slam in Delray... I came in 2nd place at the HH slam with a 29.8... (Not too bad)
2. The South Florida Natural Hair Expo was so live and I was glad to participate and share the poem I wrote about loving my kinky mane! I had no idea the movement was as strong as it is and I am proud to be in the number of Fabulous Natural Hair Divas. Big shout-out to Simone and the NTS family!
3. On Thursday I got a quick email from my Bro Brian Poem and he needed a feature for Sunday (yes 3 days’ notice). Even though it was short notice and my product is not ready for sale yet I was down for the cause to help my brotha out. By this time my singing voice was nonexistent and I sounded like a hurt crow but by the grace of the Most High I pushed through and gave it my all. Luckily I had a crowd that received my words and forgave my voice.
On Deck:
This week the beautiful and graceful Maryel Epps will be featured at the Bohemia Room and it promises to be one of the highlights of 2012. This QUEEN IS Phenomenal! If you need more info go to www.onthebside.com for the skinny and tix.
Also, Friday I will be featuring at Majestical Lips in the City aka Design District. I am looking forward to this event because the vibe will be strong and laid back at the same time, kinda sumthin like me. I plan on giving 1000% and leaving a piece of my soul on stage. It is harder to stop breathing than to stop performing. I would love to see you there!

Sharpen my sword...
As I press forward in this movement I try not to get too caught up in all the shit tht surronds the talent. Afterall it is and should be all about the talent and creativity that I bring to the table. When you have to factor in images, web presence and networking I see why some artists start to slip on their craft. I vow to avoid that shit as best as possible. I have to stay connected to my work, to my writing and vision. I have to challenge myself to try new styles... I want to speak the truth in my music cuz the truth will never get boring or played out. The only way for me to be honest as a writer is to live to my full potential and document it all! I'm gonna freewrite a little tonight and spend a little time memorizing. While research and writing practice does always fit into my busy mommy day I keep it close in my mind so when I have a moment to do ME its the first thing I think of. I know that I have so much growth ahead of me and I truly appreciate the path...

It's been a long time... But I only have like 4 readers anyway so y'all ain't missing much. I did feel the overwhelming urge to write about my adventure yesterday tho. I abandoned my inhibitions and had a photo shoot. I actually took the time to get dressed up and let a photographer take pictures of me. I knew eventually I was gonna have to get it done so I did. It felt good. I realized that it is a part of the job and having images to match the music/poetry. I hope they are well received because it took a lot out of me. I did my best to stay focused, follow the photog's direction and not crack too many jokes... (like in the attached pict) When I got home I crashed like a crack head driving a pipe into a wall made of pure rocks...
It also brought another point into focus for me. In order for me to finish and sell a product that consumers really wanna fux with I will have to do A LOT of things very far outside of my comfort zone... I pray to GOD that I am up for the challenge! I pray that MAAT take the wheel and keep me balanced cuz I can’t neglect my hubby and sees while I'm out there gettin' it... ya dig?
Lay 'round for more power moves in the near future cuz I feel the growth bursting out of my pours.

Bringing the funk to Brooklyn

Yo! C'mon Son! You buggin'! (in my grimy Brownsville accent)
I just had to say that NYC will always have a special place in my heart and I will always heart NYC. Performing at Nicholas Brooklyn off of Fulton was such a blessed experience! I know the crowd was kinda light but I show'd my ass any way! You never know whose soul could be impacted by your voice or your words so I feel like as an artist I would perform for 20 as if they were 20,000. I suggest to any poets who are looking for a place in NYC to spit do not overlook their open mic spot which is usually swole. The theory is that not a lot of poets came out to "Being Artselves" because the mic was not open and sadly most poets only wanna hear themselves. Its all good and its all bad at the same time... I dont know if I would have hopped on the train in all that heat to see some artist I barely know either. But I will say that those who were not there missed the best they never heard!
Oh yeah and Ngoma Hill was ill also. that sound healing really put my son in a cool peaceful state. He enjoyed the energy of his performance.
Aiight yo! here is a snippet of my performance http://youtu.be/JYPUkJ4VHhQ
